Oklahoma City -- The bat of Round Rock’s Luis Cruz lifted the Express to a 2-1 win over Oklahoma City Friday, extending the RedHawks’ losing streak to six games as they begin an eight-game road trip.
Cruz’ second long ball proved to be the most important of the game, a two-out dinger in the top of the ninth to put the Express (12-4) ahead for good. That home run gave Casey Fien (1-1) his first loss of the season, giving up that one hit in his one inning of service.
Round Rock (4-11) starter Mark Lowe, making his second appearance in the minors after being sent down four days earlier from the Texas Rangers, giving up just two hits and striking out three batters in two innings of service.
Not only did Cruz give Round Rock the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth, he scored the Express’ only other run of the game with a one-out solo home run in the top of the second.
Oklahoma City’s only run of the game was also a long ball, a one-out solo home run from Carlos Corporan, his third of the season, to tie the game in the bottom of the fourth.
The RedHawks will continue to battle Express, taking the games to Round Rock, Texas for a four-game road series against the Express.
