NORMAN, Oklahoma -- The Oklahoma softball team’s struggles continued Friday as the Sooners were shut out by No. 19 Texas A&M, extending OU’s losing streak to three games in the process.
Melissa Dumezich (20-7), pitched a complete-game for the Aggies (34-12, 6-4), giving up just three hits and striking out nine Oklahoma (33-14, 6-6) batters in the process. OU ace Keilani Ricketts (20-10) had far from her worst outing of the year, giving up one earned run on seven hits, but still received a loss for the outing.
The Aggies struck first in the top of the third inning, with some nice two-out hitting. With runners on first and second, Meagan May doubled to center field, driving in two runs to give Texas A&M the two-run lead.
Amber Garza led off the top of the sixth with a double to center field and two-at bats later, Kelsey Spittler singled to right field to bring Garza home and push the advantage to two runs.
Oklahoma will try to reverse its fortunes in the series finale at 2 p.m. Saturday.
