COLUMBIA, Missouri -- The Oklahoma Sooners’ up-and-down conference run continued Saturday as they fell to the Missouri Tigers 3-2 on a walk off home run in the bottom of the ninth.
Tied 2-2 after the first extra frame, Abby Vock came to the plate and battled with a full count, turned on the eighth pitch she saw and sent it over the left field wall to win the game for the Tigers (36-5, 8-1).
It was a pitching-dominated game from the outset, with the two pitchers both racking up double-digit strikeouts in the matchup. Mizzou’s Chelsea Thomas (19-3) was credited with a win for the touting, giving up just one earned run on seven hits in her nine innings of service.
Keilani Ricketts (20-8) pitched 8.1 innings for the Sooners (33-12, 6-4), allowing nine hits and three earned runs and striking out 16 Missouri batters.
Missouri struck first in the bottom of the first, Jenna Marston singled to short stop and stole second, in the next at-bat Catherine Lee singled to right field to bring her home and take a 1-0 advantage.
The Sooners played small ball in the top of the fifth to tie the game. Dani Dobbs took a leadoff walk and advanced to second thanks to a sacrifice bunt. Briana Turang drove her home in the next at-bat with an RBI single to left field.
Missouri retook the lead with two-out RBI double to right center, but OU forced extras in the top of the sixth when Destinee Martinez scored on a throwing error.
The two-game series will conclude at 3 p.m. Sunday, before a two-game weekend series with Texas A&M April 22nd.
