TULSA, Oklahoma – In 2010, the Tulsa 66ers made it all the way to the NBA D-League Finals before falling to Rio Grande Valley.
In 2011, the 66ers are getting close to the championship once again.
Tulsa was the only team to sweep their first round series as they beat the Texas Legends 2 games to none. That sweep has given the 66ers a little extra time to rest and get ready for their semifinal series.
In that round, Tulsa will be playing the Iowa Energy. These two teams met in the semifinals last year, and the 66ers upset the top-ranked Energy in that series 2 games to 1.
This year, Iowa is once again the top team in the league. The Energy went 37-13 in the regular season, 4 games better than the 66ers. But, Iowa struggled a bit in their first round series, needing all 3 games to knock off Utah.
These two teams met 3 times this year and Tulsa went 2-1 in those games. But, all of those games took place much earlier in the season. The last time these two teams met was in the middle of December, when both teams had a drastically different look.
This series gets started on Friday night when the 66ers host game 1. Then, the series will head north to Des Moines. Game 2 will be in Iowa on Monday night. And if it goes all the way to a 3rd game, the Energy will host that game on Tuesday night.
