OU’s Ricketts, Shults to Try Out for US National Team

NORMAN, Okla. – University of Oklahoma sophomore All-Americans Keilani Ricketts and Jessica Shults have accepted invitations to tryout for the 2011 United States National Team.

The two California natives are among 17 competing for spots on the USA softball roster that will compete in seven different events in four countries this summer, including the World Cup of Softball that will take place July 21-25 at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City.

This year’s selection camp will take place June 12-17 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif.. Thus far,Ricketts and Shults are two of 21 athletescompeting for the coveted 17 positions and the names of additional tryout participants will be released in May.

Ricketts currently leads the Big 12 in strikeouts with 249, appearances with 28, and games started with 21. Her strikeout total is third best in the nation and her 11.83 strikeouts per seven innings are fifth in the nation.

Shults leads the Big 12 with 18 home runs, a mark that is second best in NCAA Division I this season. She also ranks in the top 10 in the nation is home runs per game and runs batted in per game.

Both players were named to the top 50 watch list for the organization’s National Collegiate Player of the Year award, given annually to the top player in NCAA Division I softball.
