MEMPHIS, Tennessee -- After dropping two out of three to East Carolina the week before, the Tulsa softball team capped off a series sweep of Memphis Sunday with a 7-0 win over the Tigers.
Freshman ace Aimee Creager (14-1) continued to roll Sunday, pitching a complete-game, three-hit shutout for the Golden Hurricane (27-9, 10-2), striking out 10 Memphis (21-10, 6-6) batters in the process.
Lauren Carley (3-4) came away with the loss for Memphis, giving up four earned runs on seven hits in her five innings of service.
The Golden Hurricane peppered seven runs over six innings, capitalizing on several mistakes from Memphis to come away with the win.
In the top of the first, Jill Barrett came home on a wild pitch from Carley to take a 1-0 lead early on. In the next inning, Caitlin Everett singled to short stop, allowing Shelby Blanton to come home and extend the advantage to two runs.
Lacey Middlebrooks reached on a fielder’s choice in the top of the third to bring Barrett home and take a 3-0 advantage. Middlebrooks collected her second RBI two innings later with a double to left-center field to bring Barrett across the plate and make it a four-run lead for the Cowgirls.
The top of the sixth saw Kelly Chapman single to center to bring Blanton across the plate, with both Middlebrooks and Keri Leach scoring in the top of the seventh on an error by third base.
Tulsa will be back in action Wednesday for a doubleheader against Wichita State, before hosting a three-game weekend series against Southern Mississippi.
