TULSA, Oklahoma -- New Tulsa Women’s coach Matilda Mossman officially appointed Shane Coffey and Britney Brown to the Golden Hurricane’s coaching staff Monday.
Coffey has spent the past 11 years as the head coach of the Edmond Memorial girl’s basketball squad, leading the Bulldogs to a 196-86 record. In his more than a decade-long stint with the Lady Bulldogs, Coffey has led them to four state semifinal appearances, including a 20-8 campaign in 2011.
During his tenure, Coffey has sent 25 players to college on scholarship, including five to Division I schools.
“Shane and I have been coaching against each other for the last nine years. At the same time, we’ve developed a great friendship,” Mossman said. “Shane is a person I trust 100-percent. We’ve talked over the years that if I ever received a head coaching opportunity on the college level again, he wanted to join me as an assistant coach. He is a great teacher of the game and very detail-oriented.”
Brown – a former Oklahoma Sooner player and support staff memeber – spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach for Putnam City West High School. She served as the video coordinator/film exchange coach, after playing for four seasons with Oklahoma.
While at Oklahoma, Brown appeared in 129 games – starting 59 for OU – averaging 3.9 points, 2.5 assists and served as a team captain in her junior and senior seasons.
“Britney has great character. She relates well with the student-athletes and is a superb teacher. She really likes being on the court teaching and has a great personality,” Mossman said. “She was the starting point guard at OU and played on some outstanding teams. Britney was a tremendous competitor at Oklahoma."
