NORMAN, Okla. – Gerald McCoy knows how to make an entrance.
While most famous alumni would probably slink quietly into a courtside seat, McCoy attended Sunday’s OU-Baylor game in dramatic fashion.
He entered dressed in the costume of Boomer, the OU mascot, while a video with McCoy getting fans fired up played on the scoreboard screen.
McCoy took off the costume head to reveal himself amidst thunderous applause from 10,000 fans.
He later got on the microphone and had a chance to express his appreciation to the fans, as well as cheered on the Lady Sooners in a close 82-81 loss.
“Anybody wants to be welcomed once they come back home,” McCoy when talking to media after the game. “It’s always great to be able to come back and be around the people who got me to where I’m at.”
