NORMAN, Oklahoma -- The Oklahoma Sooners continued their hot start to the 2011 season thanks to a shut-down performance from Burch Smith to top the Oakland Golden Grizzlies 19-6 Sunday to earn a series sweep.

Burch (1-0) pitched six shutout innings in the win, allowing just two hits and striking out six of the 21 batters he faced.

It proved to be the opposite for Oakland (0-3)starter Hayden Fox (0-1), getting touched early and not making it out of the first inning. Fox allowed four hits and three earned runs to just seven batters, leading to getting the hook early.

Despite the large margin, most of the Sooners’ (9-0) work game in the sixth inning, scoring seven of their 19 runs in that frame and managing to bat around the lineup.

With two on base in the second at bat of the inning, Cameron Seitzer knocked a double to left center to score Garrett Buechelle from second. In the next at-bat, Tyler Ogle went yard to left center to score three and extend the Oklahoma advantage to 14-0.

After two outs and another Golden Grizzlies pitching change, Casey Johnson doubled down the left field line to drive in two and take a 16-run lead. Buechelle, after leading the inning off, singled to right field to score Cale Ellis from third and push the lead to 17-0.

The Oklahoma Sooners will travel to Arlington, Texas Tuesday for a matchup with the Texas-Arlington Mavericks before heading to California for the University of San Diego Tournament.
