NORMAN, Oklahoma -- The No. 4 Oklahoma Sooners again faced the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions Wednesday just a day after a big 27-7 win on Tuesday.

The Sooners’ Jack Mayfield and Jake Smith recorded the first home runs of their college careers, while teammate Evan Mistich scored a school-record six runs.

The team followed up the record-setting game by beating the Golden Lions 12-1. Jordan John earned the win after pitching seven innings, allowing only one run and striking out nine Arkansas-Pine Bluff batters. The Sooners trailed after the top of the third, when the Golden Lions put up their lone run of the game.

While pitching hindered the Golden Lions Tuesday, it was an inexperienced sophomore who kept Oklahoma guessing. William Dunn hasn’t pitched in three years, but started Wednesday for Arkansas-Pine Bluff. By throwing around 75 mph, Dunn confused the Sooner hitters. OU managed to put two runs on the board in the bottom of the third, and tacked on another in the fourth. The Sooners put up three runs in the fifth and an additional six in the seventh, including a three-run homer by Garrett Buechele.

The Sooners’ run-ruled game concluded the two-game sweep of the Golden Lions. Oklahoma next hosts Oakland on Feb. 25 at 3 p.m.
