NORMAN, Oklahoma -- The Oklahoma Sooners softball team dominated St. Gregory’s 9-0 in five innings Wednesday in their home opener thanks to a strong outing from pitcher Allee Allen.
Allen (1-0), in her first start of the season, pitched a complete-game shutout, allowing just two hits in the run rule-shortened game. St. Gregory’s starter Kailee Neil comes away with a loss for the outing, after allowing two hits and three earned runs in two-thirds of an inning.
The Sooners moved to break the game open early.
In the bottom of the first with two on, Brittany Williams sent a ball over the center field wall to take a 3-0 lead and end Neil’s outing early.
After adding three in the second and third innings, Oklahoma’s big bats rang out yet again. Haley Nix singled in the first at-bat of the inning and Jessica Shults followed with a home run to right field. In the next at-bat, Williams went yard for the second time and gave Oklahoma a 9-0 advantage.
Oklahoma will be back on the road again for a three-day tournament Friday in Las Cruces, New Mexico in the Troy Cox Classic.
