Oklahoma State Falls to Texas on Emotional Night

STILLWATER, Oklahoma -- Despite the emotions that came along with the night, the Oklahoma State Cowboys were unable to keep up with No. 8 Texas at the end of the game, falling 61-46 to the Longhorns Wednesday.

A big Texas run that spanned both halves proved to be the difference.

The game was tied with 90 seconds left on the clock until the Longhorns scored the final seven points of the half, capped off by a 3-pointer by Jordan Hamilton with four seconds left to lead 34-27 at half.

Texas’ long run continued into the second half, scoring the first seven of the second half of the game to open up a 41-27 lead two and a half minutes into the closing 20 minutes.

Oklahoma State responded with seven of its own to close the deficit to single-digits, however the Longhorns moved to put the game away. Texas strung together a 9-4 run to push the lead back to 13 points, a lead that would hold for the remainder of the game.

Texas’ Tristan Thompson led the Longhorns in scoring with 14 points, with Hamilton contributing 12 points and 11 rebounds and normal defensive specialist Dogus Balbay adding 10 points of his own.

Marshall Moses set the pace for Oklahoma State with 14 points and 11 rebounds, sophomore star J.P. Olukemi contributed 13 points and Markelle Brown added 12 of his own.

After the Longhorns’ interior defense kept the Cowboys off of the board on their first possession, OSU found its stride and traded baskets for the contest’s three minutes and trailed one point. Marshall Moses knocked down a jumper and a layup on back-to-back possessions to give Oklahoma State an 8-7 lead.

Texas’ guards answered with three consecutive from behind the arc to spark a 9-4 run to take a 17-12 lead, but Oklahoma State continued to rally.

The Cowboys scored seven consecutive points to take a 19-17 lead with 8:27 left in the first half.

OSU held a lead for the next three minutes, but Texas’ high-powered offense continued to respond. Trialing one point, the Longhorns strung together a 6-2 run – including four from Balbay – to retake the lead 27-25 with 3:27 left on the clock.

Oklahoma State will try to counter its back-to-back losses in Lubbock on Saturday against the Texas Tech Red Raiders.
