NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- After taking three weeks off, the Golden Hurricane women’s basketball team brought in the new year in dramatic fashion with an 89-87, double-overtime win over the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks.
The Golden Hurricane led 72-70 with just 30 seconds left in regulation when SFA’s Tammara Marion knocked down a three-pointer to take a one-point lead and a Jordan Ford free throw pushed it to two.
However, senior guard Tatum Beer knocked down a buzzer-beater to tie the game and send it to its first extra five minutes.
Tulsa scored a quick four in the opening minutes of the first overtime; however Stephen F. Austin scored four points in 30 seconds to force a second overtime.
The two squads exchanged leads in the opening 75 seconds of the second overtime, but Chanice Scott knocked down back-to-back jumpers for the Golden Hurricane to take the final lead.
Marion led all scorers with 30 points, while Ford and Courtney Conwright both chipped n 14 for Stephen F. Austin.
Taleya Mayberry led Tulsa with 24 points, while Loren McDaniel added 16 points and seven rebounds.
The Golden Hurricane will be back in action Thursday for its first conference game against the Houston Cougars.
