PITTSBURGH -- The possible coaching shakeups continue as the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that Oklahoma State offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen has been on top of Pitt's head coaching search list but has also been in contact with West Virginia.
According to the report, Holgorsen was on the top of Pittsburgh athletic director Steve Pederson’s short list for head coaching candidates due to his history of producing some of the nation’s top offenses. Pederson contacted Holgorsen late last week, according to the report, and the two interviewed at an undisclosed location over the weekend.
The story also states that a high ranking official from West Virginia has also been in contact with Holgorsen despite the fact that Bill Stewart currently remains the head coach for the Mountaineers.
A blog from the Post-Gazette's Paul Zeise claims with confidence that Holgorsen will not be the Panthers' next coach. The brief blog post said, "I can say it with confidence - Holgorsen is not going to be the head coach at Pitt, pass it on to all who care."
In his first season with Oklahoma State, Holgorsen has led the Cowboys to record-breaking numbers with a game left to play this season. Under Holgorsen’s wide-open offense, OSU has set five team offensive records, players have set seven single-season records and three more could be broken in the Alamo Bowl.
The spot as the Panthers’ head coach opened after former head coach Dave Wannstedt stepped down after a 7-5 season, despite a 5-2 finish in the Big East.
