Morrison Carries ORU to Win in Conference Opener

MACOMB, Illinois – Dominique Morrison scored 35 points and the Oral Roberts men’s basketball team coasted to a 71-58 win over Western Illinois Thursday in the conference opener for both teams.
The Golden Eagles (3-4, 1-0) carried a 28-24 lead into halftime and did not give it back for the rest of the night. They continued to gradually build their lead throughout the second half to clinch their third win in the last four games.
Morrison’s 35 points led all scorers and came on an incredible 14-of-18 shooting from the field, including 6-of-7 from beyond the 3-point line.
Damon Bell-Holter and Steven Roundtree each added double-doubles; Bell-Holter scored 11 points and pulled down 10 rebounds, and Roundtree scored 15 points and had 12 boards.
Matt Lander led Western Illinois with 16 points, Jack Houpt scored 10 and David Gebru added 13 off the bench.
Thursday’s game was ORU’s first in conference play, and its third in a string of nine consecutive road games. The Golden Eagles will play their second road game at 6 p.m. Saturday against IUPUI.
