ANAHEIM, California—The University of Tulsa Golden Hurricane fell to UNLV by a final of 80-71 in the first round of the 76 Classic Thursday night in Anaheim.
Thanks to three players scoring double figures for Tulsa, the Golden Hurricane was able to fight its way back from a 17 point deficit with 12:30 left in regulation to pull the team within five points with 2:30 left in the game.
Justin Hurtt and Scottie Haralson each scored 15 points and Steven Idlet added 12 points for the Golden Hurricane who was down 40-31 going into the locker room at halftime.
The Rebels quickly turned the halftime lead lead into a 16-point deficit just over one minute into the second half.
On the evening, TU shot 43 percent from the floor and 37 percent from the three point line, both below UNLV’s 54 percent from the field and 57 percent from behind the arc.
Turnovers are what really hurt Tulsa who had 20 in the game that UNLV turned into 28 points on the night.
Tulsa will now face Stanford Friday at 10:30 p.m. on ESPNU.
