LAHAINA, Hawaii – The Oklahoma men’s basketball team dropped its third consecutive game Wednesday in a 68-64 loss to the Chaminade Silverswords.
The Sooners (4-3) did not lead for the entire second half, but did manage to tie things at 64-64 with less than one minute left in the game.
Chaminade’s Steven Bennett made a layup with 17 seconds left to take the lead, and Cade Davis missed a potential game-winning 3-pointer on OU’s next possession. After a foul, the Silverswords (3-3) made two free throws to clinch the win.
Oklahoma’s final lead of the game was 26-24 in the first half, and Chaminade followed with a 9-4 run to take a 33-30 lead into halftime. The game remained close for the rest of the day, until OU tied the score to set up the final seconds.
While Davis’ miss sealed the Sooners’ fate, he was one of their only bright spots. He led all scorers with 24 points on 8-of-17 shooting, including 5-of-13 from behind the 3-point line. Andrew Fitzgerald added 11 points and was OU’s only other double-digit scorer.
The two teams had nearly identical numbers from the field; both teams shot 46 percent and made six 3-pointers. But the difference came at the free-throw line. The Silverswords were 10-of-11 from the charity stripe, while OU was just 8-of-14.
Shane Hanson led Chaminade with 23 points, while Bennett scored 16 and Mamadou Diarra added 15.
Wednesday’s contest ended a three-game stint for the Sooners in the Maui Invitational, and they lost all three games. Their next two games will also be on the road, starting against Arkansas on Dec. 1. The time of that game has not yet been determined.
