The University of Oklahoma was selected as one of eight sites to host preliminary rounds of the 2012 Women's NCAA tournament, the Division I Women’s Basketball Committee announced Tuesday.
The dates for the games will be either March 17 and 19 or March 18 and 20.
It will be the seventh time OU has hosted Women's NCAA tournament games.
OU hosted first and second round games in 2009, as well as 1986, 2001, 2002 and 2003.
It also hosted a regional championship in 2004.
OU coach Sherri Coale said the committee awarding the site is a reflection of the success and high attendance numbers the school has had.
“The NCAA committee wants teams who earn the right to participate in the tournament to have a special experience and a large part of that experience for student-athletes is playing in front of a lot of people," she said. "Our women's basketball attendance numbers over the past decade speak volumes.
"But it's actually much more than sheer numbers. It's the passion of Oklahoma basketball fans that keeps bringing the NCAA tournament back to the Lloyd Noble Center."
