NORMAN, Oklahoma -- The University of Oklahoma’s Travis Lewis was named one of 15 semifinalists for the Butkus Award, given to the top linebacker in college football.
The No. 1 Sooners’ linebacker leads his undefeated team with 59 tackles and one interception -- which he returned for a touchdown in OU’s 47-17 win over Florida State.
With just 23 more tackles, Lewis will become only the sixth Sooner to lead OU in tackles in three-straight years. If chosen, the junior would join the ranks of former Sooners Brian Bosworth, Rocky Calmus and Teddy Lehman, all of whom received the Butkus Award while attending OU.
The recipient of the 26th Annual Butkus Award will be chosen by a 51-person panel, comprised of scouts, coaches and journalists.
Lewis and the Sooners will face the No. 16 Missouri Tigers Saturday at 7 p.m.
