LUBBOCK, Texas – Oklahoma State University could soon begin the bidding process for the construction of a new indoor practice facility on campus, athletic director Mike Holder said before the start of OSU’s game against Texas Tech.
OSU is currently the only Big 12 school without an indoor practice facility.
The school’s plans for the indoor facility were originally included in the proposed “athletic village,” which would feature a number of amenities for OSU student athletes and be located directly north of the current stadium. But funding for the project was depleted after the economic crisis reduced OSU’s funds that were set aside for it.
The preliminary process for the facility will now get underway, but the structure would likely be slightly less prolific and more budget-friendly than the original plans.
The facility would be named after OSU graduate Sherman Smith, who donated $20 million toward the indoor facility in 2007.
