Coming off the 28-20 win against Texas, Bob Stoops and the Sooners have a week to rest up before they host Iowa State October 16.
“It’s a good time to rest and regroup for the second part of the season,” said Stoops.
The Sooners moved up two spots on the AP Top 25 poll released Monday.
Stoops had this to say about his teams efforts against Texas, “Overall the ability to run the football like we did is a huge plus, we got good pressure to the quarterback, and Landry Jones continued to play great?. we’re still a work in progress and I like that.”
As far as injuries go, Stoops says linebacker Austin Box and running back Roy Finch will both be back for the Iowa State matchup Oct. 16 which will kickoff at 6:00 p.m. and can be seen on Fox.
Stoops also said Casey Walker will be out another four weeks with a severe knee sprain suffered late in the first quarter against Cincinnati.
Meanwhile, in Stillwater, the Cowboys are preparing for their road game this week. Oklahoma State travels to Louisiana Lafayette to face the Ragin’ Cajuns Friday at 8:05. That game can be seen on ESPN2.
Head Coach Mike Gundy and the Cowboys continue to prepare for the game, not overlooking any matchup. “Each week is a challenge for us, with the youth on our team, but hopefully they’re maturing some and understand the importance of preparation ?they’re aware that Lafayette will be very fired up and ready to go,” said Gundy.
Coach Gundy also said that in order to come out on top this week OSU has to have a good week of practice, and come out in the game with a fast start in order to be successful.
OSU also continues to rake in the awards in the Big 12 Conference. This week defensive end Ugo Chinasa was named co-Defensive Player of the Week, the third such honor for a Cowboy in five weeks.
“Ugo has really improved in the last couple of years and (he) played very well, as good as any in his career here and hopefully he will continue to play well through the season.”
