What you need to know?

After struggling against Utah State, the Sooners completely turned things around in their second game against Florida State. Kevin Wilson opened up the playbook, constantly putting receivers in motion and using short swing passes to take advantage of the cushion provide by the Seminoles’ secondary.

The defense also looked significantly better, particularly cornerback Jamell Fleming. But Air Force uses an option offense that will force the Sooners to drastically change their defensive approach. The Falcons attempted just 25 passes total in their first two games, but put up 846 rushing yards, the most in the nation.

Who to watch?

The key to an OU victory will be its defense, particularly the linebackers. They will have to read and react quickly to the option in order to avoid giving up big plays. Tom Wort will be especially important, since he will have to plug holes and cut off the cutback lanes of the Air Force running backs.

On offense, Landry Jones will have to be accurate and efficient. Because Air Force runs the ball so much, it chews up a lot of clock. That will give the Sooners’ offense less time to score, meaning they will have to make the most of the few possessions they have. Tress Way and Ryan Broyles will also be important in the field position battle on special teams.
