TULSA, Oklahoma – The Tulsa Drillers scored in just one inning Tuesday night against Springfield, but that was more than enough.

The Drillers used a five-run second inning to blow by the Cardinals, 5-1 at ONEOK Field in Tulsa.

Springfield scored a run in the top of the first to go up 1-0, but that would be the end of its offensive production for the night.

In the bottom of the second, the Cardinals’ Ryan Kulik had a wild pitch with the bases loaded to bring Tulsa’s Jason Van Kooten home and start the scoring for the Drillers.

First baseman Warren Schaeffer followed that up with a single, driving in Scott Beerer and Radames Nazario to put Tulsa up 3-1.

Outfielders Anthony Jackson and Charles Blackmon both picked up RBIs to give the Drillers their 5-1 margin.

After that, Tulsa pitcher Keith Weiser went to work, allowing just two more hits until he left in the eighth inning. He got the win for the Drillers, allowing one run and five total hits in seven innings.

Ryan Kulik picked up the loss for Springfield.

The teams kick off September with a 7:05 p.m. game Wednesday at ONEOK Field in Tulsa.
