STILLWATER, Oklahoma – Oklahoma State defensive end Jamie Blatnick pleaded guilty on friday to an assault and battery misdemeanor charge stemming from an Aug. 2 incident in Stillwater.

Payne County District Attorney Rob Hudson said he filed for the charges to be reduced on Friday to a misdemeanor after former OSU player Stephen Denning approached him and asked that prosecutors not pursue a felony charge.

Blatnick was originally charged with felony assault and battery with a dangerous weapon after a brawl with Denning. Witnesses reported Blatnick hit Denning with a beer bottle.

Hudson said Denning also asked the judge for reduced charges against Blatnick at a court hearing Friday.

Blatnick was sentenced to a year of probation and 30 hours of community service. He must complete an anger resolution class, pay a series of fines and also pay for Denning's medical bills.

After news of the incident first surfaced, OSU head coach Mike Gundy did not allow Blatnick to practice with the team. Blatnick was limited to working on a stairmaster, but Gundy eventually allowed Blatnick back at practice. However, Gundy was still adamant Blatnick would not play while facing felony charges.

Gundy has not commented on whether Blatnick will be allowed to play in OSU's opener against Washington State on Sept. 4.
