ROUND ROCK, Texas – The RedHawks almost blew a four-run lead, but second baseman Alex Cora saved the day with a home run in the ninth to give Oklahoma City a 5-4 victory against Round Rock on Monday.
Esteban German got OKC off to a quick start, doubling on the first at-bat of the game. After outfielder Willy Taveras walked, first baseman Chris Davis drove German in with a ground-rule double to right field.
Max Ramirez and Ryan Garko also picked up RBIs to put the RedHawks up 3-0 in the top of the first.
Second baseman Hernan Iribarren kept it going for OKC in the third, driving in Davis to give his team a 4-0 lead.
The Express, after picking up one run in the bottom of the third, struck again with a wild seventh inning.
Oklahoma City pitcher Jesus Colome started the seventh inning, but pitched just 1/3 of an inning, giving up three runs in the process before getting replaced.
With the game locked at 4-4, Cora hit the game-winning home run to give Oklahoma City its third straight victory against Round Rock.
Willie Eyre picked up the win on the mound for Oklahoma City, while Gary Majewski got the loss for the Express.
The RedHawks will go for the four-game sweep at 7:05 p.m. tomorrow in Round Rock.
