TULSA, Oklahoma -- After their hot bats led them to a hot-streak, a complete-game pitching performance by the Travelers’ Tyler Chatwood silenced the Drillers’ offense in a 13-0 trouncing.
Chatwood (1-3) allowed only three hits in his nine-inning outing, striking out six and walking only one Tulsa (43-45) batter to earn his first win of the season. Conversely, Greg Reynolds (3-3) was lit up by Arkansas (34-56), allowing eight earned runs on 11 hits – including three home runs – in his four innings of service.
The Travelers got off to quick start putting up three runs in the first inning. After the first two batters were retired, Jeremy Moore and Charlton Jimerson hit back-to-back home runs to take a 2-0 lead. Ryan Mount and Efren Navarro followed with back-to-back doubles to add one run to the lead.
In the top of the second, Tyson Auer singled to bring Beau Brooks home after he singled to start the inning and and reached third on a fielding error.
Arkansas added four more in the top of the fourth – including a bases clearing double by Jimerson and a solo home run by Mount – and five in the top of the eighth to put the game out of reach at 13-0.
The Drillers will try to awaken their bats in the third game of the four-game series with Arkansas at 7:05 p.m. Saturday.
