COLLEGE PARK, Maryland -- The Oklahoma Sooners advanced to the NCAA Super Regional with a 2-0 win over the Fordham Rams Sunday.
Keilani Ricketts (31-8) continued to be untouchable in the NCAA Tournament, pitching a complete-game shutout, giving up just two hits and striking out 11. Fordham (49-12) pitcher Jen Mineau (34-9) received a loss for the game, after giving up seven hits and two runs – neither run earned – in her six innings of service.
The Sooners (46-10) scored both of their runs in the bottom of the fifth, in back-to-back at-bats.
With two outs on the board, Hayley Nix knocked a ball into right field with runners on second and third. The left fielder mishandled the ball, allowing Jessica Shults to advance to third and scoring Evan Sallis. In the next at-bat, Ricketts helped her own cause with an RBI single up the middle to bring Shults home.
The Sooners will take on the Washington Huskies – the No. 3 seed in the tournament – Thursday at 9 p.m. CDT at Husky Stadium in Super Regional round. Despite being the third seed in the NCAA tournament, the Huskies are the unanimous No. 1 team in the nation in both the ESPN.com/USA Softball and the USA Today/NFCA polls.
