HOUSTON -- University of Tulsa senior Lauren Lindsay was named the Conference USA Softball Player of the Year as voted by the league's coaches, the C-USA office announced Tuesday. Three other Hurricane players - senior Vanessa Vice, and freshmen Samantha Cobb and Caitlin Everett - were selected to the 2010 All-Conference USA Teams.
Lindsay and Vice were selected to the first team, while Cobb and Everett were selected to both the All-C-USA Second Team and the C-USA All-Freshman Team. Lindsay is the first Tulsa softball player to be named conference player of the year.
Lindsay leads Conference USA in five categories - batting average, slugging percentage, runs, RBI, home runs and total bases - and ranks among the top five in 10 categories overall. The Oklahoma City native also ranks among the top 45 in the NCAA in six categories. In C-USA games, the Carl Albert alum ranks among the top 10 in the conference in eight categories, and leads the league in slugging percentage and home runs. She has 14 multiple hit and 11 multiple RBI games, including five with at least three RBI, this season. Lindsay holds the C-USA career doubles and runs scored records, and sits among the top five in league history in four other categories. She has also set six school career records and seven school single season records.
Vice started all 48 games at first base for the Golden Hurricane this season. She ranks fourth in batting average in C-USA games, and fifth in on-base percentage. Vice has 12 multiple hit games, including five with at least three hits.
Everett ranks in the top 10 in C-USA in batting average, hits, runs scored and stolen bases. She has a higher batting average and more runs scored than any other freshman in the league overall and in conference games. She ranks among the top 10 in C-USA in five categories, and has the second-best batting average and second-most runs scores in C-USA games. Everett has 17 multiple hit games this season, including six games with at least three hits, and has hit safely in 40 games in her rookie season.
Cobb started every game at shortstop for the Hurricane this season. She ranks among the C-USA top 10 in slugging percentage, hits, RBI, home runs and total bases, and ranks among the top five in RBI, home runs and total bases. She has committed only eight errors all year at shortstop. Cobb has 16 multiple hit games, including five with at least three hits, and 12 multiple RBI games, including eight with at least three RBI. She has hit four grand slams this year, and shattered the single season school record for RBI, and now has 53 on the year.
