COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado -- USA Basketball announced Tuesday that Thunder forward Jeff Green will join Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook on the 2010-2012 USA Men’s National Basketball Team.
Green is one of four players, along with Tayshaun Prince of the Detroit Pistons, Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors and Tyreke Evans of the Sacramento Kings, to be added to the pool of 31 potential members of the USA International Basketball team.
“The addition of Tayshaun, Jeff, Stephen and Tyreke to our national team roster adds additional veteran experience, versatility and young talent,” said USA and Duke University head coach Mike Krzyzewski. “Although we have a number of players who were members of the 2006-08 national team returning to the 2010-12 national team pool, we are beginning a new selection and team building process and I believe the addition of these four players will help strengthen our national team program in several areas over the next three years.”
The USA National Team training camp will be held July 19-24 in Las Vegas and will end with an intra-squad game held at 7 p.m. July 24 at the Thomas and Mack Center on the University of Nevada – Los Vegas campus.
The USA National Basketball team – which will be whittled down to 12 players – will compete in the 2010 FIBA World Championship which will be held Aug. 28-Sept. 12, and potentially the 2011 FIBA Americas Olympic Qualifying Tournament and the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London. A win in the 2010 FIBA World Championship would grant the team an automatic berth in the 2012 Olympic Games.
Green averaged 15.1 points and six rebounds in 37.1 minutes per game during the 2009-2010 regular season.
