OKLAHOMA CITY -- Oklahoma City grabbed its third consecutive win over Memphis with a 12-4 win Monday.
The Redbirds (8-11) struck first, with a Roben Gotay solo home run to right field in the second at-bat of the game.
Oklahoma City (13-6) responded in the next half inning with two runs. Late in the inning, Chad Tracy grounded out to the shortstop allowing Craig Tracy to score. In the next at-bat, Chirs Davis singled to left field to give the RedHawks a 2-1 lead. They added another run in the bottom of the second on a Brandon Boggs solo home run to right field in the first at-bat of the inning.
That ended Memphis pitcher Adam Ottavino’s (1-2) night after giving up four hits and three runs in just two innings of service.
The RedHawks biggest inning came in the bottom of the third, as they recorded seven runs and put the game out of reach. New Redbirds pitcher Trey Hearne threw a wild pitch that allowed Chris Davis to score. Two batters later, Hearne hit batter Mitch Moreland with the bases loaded bringing Jarrod Saltalamacchia home. In the next at-bat, Gregorio Petit singled to center to score Matthew Brown and Boggs home to give the RedHawks a 7-2 lead.
Hearne’s struggles continued in the next at-bat when Mitch Moreland and Petit scored on a line-drive single to left field by Craig Gentry. With two outs, Chris Davis singled to right field bringing Gentry home to give Oklahoma City a 10-2 lead.
The RedHawks go for a sweep of Memphis at 11:05 a.m. Tuesday.
