AUSTIN, Texas -- Oklahoma State was no match for second ranked Texas as the Cowboys were trounced by the Longhorns 14-1 Friday.
Cameron Rupp started the Horns (32-7, 14-2) off early with a three-run home run to left center to put Texas on top 3-0. Rupp came up big again in the sixth inning with a two-run double to right. He finished 2-for-4 with 5 RBIs and scored three runs.
The Longhorns broke the game open with a four-run fifth inning. Kevin Keyes hit a two-run double to center to put Texas on top 7-1. Russell Moldenhauer singled up the middle on the next play to drive in two more runs.
Tant Shepherd capped the hit parade in the eighth with a two-run homer to left center. The Longhorns scored 14 runs on 14 hits.
The Cowboys (23-14, 5-8) lone run came when Tom Belza scored on a Mark Ginther sacrifice fly in the fourth inning. OSU managed just four hits.
Thomas Keeling suffered the loss for the Cowboys after giving up nine earned runs in four innings. Taylor Jungmann went the distance, allowing just one run while earning the win for Texas.
The Cowboys and Longhorns will continue their series at 2:00 p.m. Saturday.
