HATTIESBURG, Mississippi -- Tulsa swept Southern Mississippi 2-0 and 9-1 in six innings in a doubleheader Saturday.
In the first game Lauren Menke’s single to short brought in Vanessa Vice from third to give the Golden Hurricane a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning. TU would get on the board again in the fifth after Lauren Lindsey’s RBI double.
That is all pitcher Jackie Lawrence needed as she cruised the whole game and scattered four hits while striking out four batters. Gabby Luciani got the loss for the Golden Eagles after giving up two runs and seven hits in seven innings.

Tulsa (22-15, 6-2) started quickly in the second game. Lindsey drove in Caitlin Everett with an RBI double to give TU an early 1-0 lead. Lindsey would score a couple batters later on Vice’s RBI single to center.
Menke crossed the plate in the second inning after Everett’s single up the middle to make it a 3-0 game.
Lindsey did more damage in the fourth and sixth innings. In the fourth she drove in two runs on a double to left and later scored on a passed ball to give Tulsa a 6-1 lead. She hit a two-run homer the opposite way in the sixth to give the Golden Hurricane an 8-1 advantage. Tulsa would score another run in the sixth to make it a 9-1 game.
USM’s (15-20, 0-11) lone run of the doubleheader came on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the second.
Jordan Kinnard earned the win for Tulsa in the second game after going the distance and not giving up an earned run. Courtney Ramos was tagged with the loss for the Eagles after allowing six earned runs in five innings.
The two teams conclude their three-game series at 12 p.m. Sunday.
