OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Oklahoma City RedHawks fell 6-3 in 13 innings against the Albuquerque Isotopes in Thursday’s season opener.
Albuquerque had the bases loaded with two outs in 13th inning. A throwing error by third baseman Matthew Brown allowed Prentice Redman and Nick Green to score and give the Isotopes a 5-3 lead. The Isotopes would get an insurance run after a wild pitch by Elizardo Ramirez.
The RedHawks had a runner on third with two outs, but Esteban German struck out swinging to end the game.
Oklahoma City had a chance to win the game in the 11th inning. The RedHawks had two on with one out, however, Chad Tracy hit into an inning-ending double play.
Redman hit a two-run homer in the top of the ninth to tie the game 3-3 and force extra innings.
Justin Smoak scored on Max Ramirez’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth to break a 1-1 tie. Gregorio Petit single to center would bring Brandon Boggs home to give the RedHawks a 3-1 lead.
Smoak put Oklahoma City on the board first with a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth.
The RedHawks would not hold the lead for long. Michael Restovich led off the fifth inning with a solo homer to left field to tie the game 1-1.
Geoff Geary (0-1) was tagged with the loss for Oklahoma City after allowing three runs (zero earned) in 1.2 innings. Tim Corcoran (1-0) earned the win after pitching two shutout innings.
The RedHawks and Isotopes continue their series at 7:05 p.m. Friday.
