TULSA, Oklahoma -- Missouri State captured its second straight win over Oral Roberts 5-1 Saturday.
The Bears (10-16) jumped on the Golden Eagles (11-12) quickly. Aaron Conway scored on Luke Volt’s sacrifice fly to put MSU up 1-0 in the top of the first. Missouri State got its next run in the third off a bases loaded walk to take a 2-0 lead. The Bears plated two more runs in the fifth inning to push their advantage to 4-0.
Tyler Saladino’s double in the bottom of the fifth drove in Justin Mitchell to give the Golden Eagles their first and only run of game. However, Missouri State was able to add an insurance run in the seventh to make it a 5-1 game. ORU did not advance a runner past first base after the fifth inning.
Alec Smith (0-2) was tagged with the loss for the Golden Eagles after giving up two earned runs and walking three batters in 2.2 innings. Pat Doyle (2-5) earned the win for the Bears, allowing just one run in 6.1 innings.
The Golden Eagles and Bears conclude their three-game series at 1 p.m., Sunday when play moves to Hammons Field in Springfield, Mo.
