COLUMBIA, Missouri -- The No. 15 Oklahoma State softball team was forced into a doubleheader due to heavy rain on Friday and swept No. 4 Missouri 8-3 and 1-0 Saturday.
The Cowgirls (32-7, 4-0) had tied the game at 3 with a Chelsea Garcia two-run home run when heavy rains in Columbia caused the game to be delayed. The game was resumed at noon Saturday.
OSU pitcher Anna Whiddon only gave up one hit after play resumed and pitched four shutout innings to hold the Tigers (23-6, 1-3) at three runs.
In the top of the fifth, Oklahoma State took its first lead of the game on a Sam Heinlein two-run double to bring Tamara Brown and Julie Ward home to take a 5-3 lead.
Julie Ward added another score in the top of the sixth with an RBI single to bring Mariah Gerhart across the plate. Ward scored in the next at-bat when Tamara Brown reached on a throwing error. The Cowgirls added one more run in the seventh to take an 8-3 lead on a Katie Asher RBI single that brought Megan Castle across the plate.
Kat Espinosa was dominant in the second game, pitching a complete game, three-hit shutout, her eighth complete game of the season.
The only run of the game was scored in the fourth inning on back-to-back doubles by Ward and Brown.
OSU is back in action Wednesday against Oklahoma in Stillwater.
