AUSTIN, Texas -- A late pinch-hit homer from Oral Roberts’ Jared Schlehuber earned a 3-2 win for the Golden Eagles over Texas, and snapped a 15-game losing streak to the Longhorns.
Schlehuber’s hit came late in the top of the eighth inning, sealing the ‘Horns fate and improving the Golden Eagles to 11-10 on the season.
ORU was first on the board, earning a run in the third inning, and tacking on another in the top of the sixth. Texas answered back though, scoring a run in both the bottom of the sixth and the bottom of the seventh. Despite striking out 16 times, ORU managed to stay in the game offensively.
ORU pitcher Jeff Burleson gave up the game-tying run in the seventh inning, after allowing eight hits and earning seven strikeouts.
Burleson closed the game following Schlehuber’s hit with one walk, before striking out Texas’ Cameron Rupp to end the game.
The Golden Eagles will host Missouri State April 2 at 7 p.m., followed by another matchup between the two teams April 3 at 2 p.m. ORU will then travel to Missouri State April 4 to play the Bears on the road in the three-game series.
