TULSA, Oklahoma -- Jeff Burleson’s complete game powered Oral Roberts to an 8-1 defeat over Wichita State Wednesday. Burleson (2-2) allowed just five hits and struck out seven.
The Golden Eagles (7-10) swept the two-game midweek series and Burleson went the distance to match Seth Furmanek’s complete game from Tuesday’s 7-1 victory.
Burleson was helped out by ORU’s five-run eighth. Colby Price drove in P.J. Sequeira on a single. Tyler Saladino knocked in Price two batters later with a sacrifice fly. Tyler Garewal drew a bases-loaded walk for a 6-1 ORU lead and the Golden Eagles tallied two more on an error by Wichita State shortstop Tyler Grimes.
Price drove in Chris Elder in the fourth inning to give ORU a 1-0 lead.
Elder’s two-run homer in the sixth put the Golden Eagles on top 3-0.
The Golden Eagles host North Dakota in a three-game series at 7 p.m., Friday.
