NORMAN, Oklahoma – The Oklahoma baseball team’s second game of a Friday doubleheader against Baylor was postponed because of inclement weather.
The Sooners trailed 5-0 in the third inning, when rain moved in and forced a delay. The game still could not be resumed by 9:30 p.m., so it was pushed back until 1 p.m. Sunday.
In the first game of the doubleheader, OU got all of its scoring in the first three innings. After jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the first innings, Baylor committed a costly error in the bottom of the second that led to five unearned runs.
Casey Johnson reached on a throwing error, which led to Danny Black connecting on a two-run single to give the Sooners’ their first two runs of the game. Chris Ellison and Caleb Bushyhead followed with back-to-back home runs, give OU its first lead of the game 5-3.
Johnson and Bryan Groth each added RBI doubles in the third inning to push the Sooners’ advantage to 7-3. Baylor closed the gap with two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth to cut the lead to one, but neither team scored for the rest of the game.
Zach Neal started the game for OU and gave up three runs in two innings of work, and Michael Rocha earned the win in relief. Jeremy Erben had the strongest outing for the Sooners, holding Baylor scoreless in the final three innings while giving up just two hits to earn the save.
