STILLWATER, Oklahoma -- Oklahoma State’s Kat Espinosa pitched five and 1/3 innings Sunday to help the Cowgirls earn a 2-0 win over Rutgers and finish undefeated at the Mizuno Classic.
Espinosa gave up six hits, one walk and struck out four for her sixth win of the season.
The freshman was relieved by senior Anna Whiddon, who held the Scarlet Knights hitless. Whiddon struck out one and finished the game for OSU, who improved to 20-6 on the season.
Oklahoma State recorded its first run early in the game, when Katelyn Bright, who was on first after being walked, scored on a double by Alysia Hamilton.
The team’s second and final run came in the third inning, when Mariah Gearhart stole second and scored after Julie Ward hit a single to center field.
The Cowgirls will host Northern Iowa Tuesday and Wednesday. Both games are scheduled for 7 p.m.
