TULSA, Oklahoma – The Oral Roberts baseball team used an offensive barrage to end a three-game losing streak with a 13-2 victory over Western Michigan Friday.
Four different ORU players hit home runs, and the Golden Eagles (3-6) recorded their highest-scoring game of the season. It was also the first time this year the Eagles won by more than one run.
Oral Roberts started the scoring early, knocking in seven runs in the game’s first four innings. After the Eagles scored once in the first, Colby Price led off the second inning with a solo home run. ORU added two more runs in the inning after an RBI single by Tyler Garewal and sacrifice fly by Tyler Saladino.
Saladino extended the lead again in the fourth with a three-run home run, making it a 7-0 game. Western Michigan (2-9) finally got on the board with two runs in the fifth, but failed to score for the rest of the night.
Brett Sowers hit a solo home run in the fifth and Robert Barbosa added a two-run shot in the seventh to cap ORU’s power hitting and give the Eagles a 10-2 lead. They added three more runs in the bottom of the eighth and turned a double play in the ninth to end the game.
Saladino finished with a game-high five RBIs, and six different Golden Eagles drove in at least one run. P.C. Sequeira had ample opportunity to extend the team’s huge lead, but he went 1-of-6 and left eight runners on base.
The victory starts a three-game weekend series between ORU and WMU, with the next game being played at 2 p.m. Saturday
