WACO, Texas – Oral Roberts led 5-0 and 8-5 against Baylor on Sunday, but could not hold on and fell 12-8.
The Golden Eagles took a commanding 5-0 lead in the fourth with RBI doubles by P.J Sequeira and Brett Sowers. Seth Furmanek and Colby Price also drove in runs with RBI singles.
After the Bears tagged starting pitcher Mark Guest for five runs in the fifth inning, Oral Roberts came back with three runs in the top half of the next inning with two RBI singles and a sacrifice fly.
Baylor plated five runs in the bottom half of the six inning, however, and took the lead for good. ORU’s Jeff Burleson surrendered all five runs, including a two-run home run by Raynor Campbell.
The Bears would add two more runs in the bottom of the eighth and hold on for the series win.
Burleson (1-1) took the loss for ORU, allowing five runs on five hits in 1.1 innings.
The Golden Eagles return home for a three-game weekend series against Western Michigan. The series gets underway at 3 p.m. on Friday.
