STILLWATER, Oklahoma -- The Oklahoma State Cowgirls earned their fifth win Wednesday after handing North Texas a 7-0 beating.

OSU’s Anna Whiddon struck out two in the top of the first, shutting down the UNT offense early.

In the Cowgirls’ first at bat, Mariah Gearhart was struck by a pitch, sending her to first base. She stole second and managed to advance to third base after a wild pitch by UNT’s Ashley Lail. A wild throw by the Mean Green’s third baseman, Rebecca Waters, sent Gearhart home to put OSU ahead, 1-0.

The Cowgirls extended their lead to 2-0 in the second inning, after Graham earned a single and advanced home after a Mean Green error.

In the third, fourth and fifth innings, Lail earned two strike outs, while Widdon earned three strikeouts for the Cowgirls. No runs were scored during the three innings.

Graham was walked in the top of the sixth. She advanced to second after an error by the UNT second baseman. The error also allowed Megan Castle to reach first. A sacrifice bunt by Chelsea Garcia sent Graham to third and Castle to second, and a single by Sam Heinlein, coupled with a UNT error, allowed Graham to score for the Cowgirls.

Gearhart hit a single to load the bases, and a double by Katelyn Bright sent Gearhart, Kelsey Anchors and Castle home, giving OSU a 6-0 lead.

Hamilton grounded out on the next at bat, sending Bright to third base with Julie Ward on deck. Ward hit a double down the right field line, sealing the Mean Green’s fate.

The Cowgirls host Louisville Friday at 6 p.m.
