CATHEDRAL CITY, California --The Oklahoma State softball team split their final two games of the Cathedral City Classic, upsetting No. 13 California 3-2 and falling to top-ranked Washington 9-4.

The Cowgirls finished 4-1 in the tournament and are 10-5 on the season.

Red-shirt freshman Tamara Brown finished 3-for-5 on the day with a run batted in and junior Alysia Hamilton added three hits and two RBIs.

In the first game of the day against California, the Cowgirls rallied in the sixth inning to take the lead. Mariah Gearhart led off the inning with a single and was followed with hits from Katelyn Bright and Hamilton to load the bases. Then everyone safely advanced a base on an error by the Bears second baseman to make the score 2-1. Breana Casaus pinch-ran for Hamilton and scored on a ground out by Megan Castle. Sammy Jo-Diffendaffer was running for Julie Ward and she came home on an RBI-single by Brown.

Anna Whiddon picked up her sixth win of the season and threw seven innings, giving up two runs off four hits.

In the second game of the day, OSU battled the defending national champion Washington Huskies (11-1). Washington got off to an early 3-0 lead, but Oklahoma State rallied in the second inning and scored two runs from an RBI-ground out by Chelsea Garcia and a sacrifice fly from Kelsey Anchors.

Washington would put the game way later, though, by scoring two runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings, including a pair off of two-run home runs.

Oklahoma State will return to action next Wednesday for the home opener against North Texas at 3 p.m.
