QB Shavodrick Beaver
Background:
The true freshman saw action in seven games in 2009. He rushed for 106 yards on 27 carries but gained just six yards through the air on one-for-three passing.
Why He’s on the List:
Coaches normally do not play a true freshman quarterback, especially when there are two others ahead of him on the depth chart. However, Beaver saw significant time and not just in mop-up duty.
Best Case Scenario:
The Golden Hurricane staff sees something in Beaver, the question is what? He is a scrambling threat and if he can become a more accurate passer he will be a real playmaker on offense.
Worst Case Scenario:
Beaver is just a runner who can throw. He does not have to be a pocket-passer, but if he cannot improve on his accuracy and start reading defenses better, then he might be in for a position change.
My Take:
It is a toss-up. Beaver has the athleticism to be a real threat, but needs to improve his quarterbacking skills. The coaches see something in this young player, but it is up to him to perform to their expectations on a consistent basis.
