STILLWATER, Oklahoma -- The Oklahoma Sooners pulled off a double-digit win over rivals Oklahoma State Cowgirls, winning this season’s Bedlam game, 77-66.
Bedlam got off to a fast-paced start as the Oklahoma State Cowgirls jumped to a quick lead early in the first half. The Pokes were able to hold that lead and build a 7-point margin over their rivals, but the Sooners were hot on their heels, playing tight defense.
The Sooners’ hustle earned them a one-point lead with 8 minutes left on the clock, the first time OU lead the game.
This year’s matchup showcased two of the top players in Big 12 women’s basketball, OSU’s Andrea Riley and OU’s Danielle Robinson.
The Sooners’ team leader ended the first half with 12 points, while Riley finished with 10 points, but it was ball movement from the two standouts that perpetuated the fast pace offensive strategies. The Cowgirls lead at half, 33-31.
The second half proved to be another series of quick play with both teams virtually neck-and-neck. It wasn’t until the final 3 minutes of the game that the Sooners were able to gain control and gradually extend the lead over the Pokes.
Robinson ended with a career-high 36 points, nine rebounds and six assists, including hitting all 16 free-throw attempts. Teammate Abi Olajuwon finished with 14 points and nine rebounds, while Amanda Thompson helped by adding six points and 10 rebounds for the Sooners.
In Riley’s final Bedlam game of her career, she scored 30 points and had six rebounds for her team. Tegan Cunningham ended with 16 points.
