NORMAN, Oklahoma --Former Sooner Wayman Tisdale will be honored Saturday by Oklahoma native Toby Keith, as the university plans a celebration of Tisdale’s life.
Tisdale, OU’s all-time leading scorer and rebounder, died May 2009 after battling cancer and suffering from other health-related issues.
Tisdale’s legacy on the hardwood was matched by his accomplishments outside of basketball. Following his career in the NBA, Tisdale launched his music career. Through music, Tisdale and Keith became friends and collaborated together.
Keith wrote “Cryin For Me (Wayman’s Song)” and will perform the piece with saxophonist Tom Braxton and other members of Tisdale’s former band at halftime at the Sooners’ game Saturday.
