STILLWATER, Oklahoma – Oklahoma State punter Quinn Sharp was named the 2009 recipient of the College Football Performance Award as the nation’s top kickoff specialist Tuesday.
Sharp led the nation with 35 kickoffs resulting in touchbacks. According to the Performance Award’s criteria, Sharp’s performance is the second best since kickoffs were moved to the 30-yard line. Only former USC kicker David Buehler – who is now a kickoff specialist for the Dallas Cowboys – had a better showing.
"It's an honor to be recognized like this because of the amount of work that you put in," Sharp said in a statement. "I want to thank the College Football Performance Awards and all my teammates and coaches for this."
Over the last two years, OSU has received the most Performance Awards of any school in the nation. In 2008, Perrish Cox won the award for the nation’s best kick returner and Dez Bryant won the award for the nation’s best receiver.
