Oklahoma State’s Ray Penn and Tulsa’s Ben Uzoh were both named candidates for the Bob Cousy Award Wednesday.
The honor, which was created in 2004, is given annually to the nation’s best point guard and last year was awarded to North Carolina’s Ty Lawson.
“The Hall of Fame is proud to once again work with Mr. Cousy and The Hartford to present one of college basketball’s most coveted awards,” said John L. Doleva, President and CEO of the Basketball Hall of Fame. “This list represents a wide range of college basketball’s top players from all divisions and we look forward to honoring the legacy of Mr. Cousy with this year’s award winner.”
Penn has scored 9.4 points per game this season and leads the team with 2.7 assists per game. Uzoh is tied with Justin Hurtt for team lead in points with 15.5 points per game and leads the Golden Hurricane with 4.3 assists per game.
Penn and Uzoh are two of 71 players named as candidates for the Cousy Award. Among the other candidates are freshman sensation John Wall of Kentucky and Villanova’s Scotty Reynolds, who originally committed to the University of Oklahoma.
