OKLAHOMA CITY -- University of Oklahoma defensive end Jeremy Beal was named Wednesday morning as one of seven finalists for this year’s Hendricks Award – an annual award given to the nation’s top defensive end in college football.
A native of Carrollton, Texas, Beal led Oklahoma with 11 sacks – the second consecutive year he’s accomplished that feat. The junior is fourth-best in OU history in total sacks.
During the 2009 season, he became the first Sooner in history to record three sacks in back-to-back games.
Other finalists for the award, which will be announced December 9, include Sergio Kindle of Texas and Von Miller of Texas A&M.
Gerald McCoy is the only other Sooner to be named as a finalist for an award, as one of four finalists for the Rotary Lombardi Award.
