FORT MYERS, Florida — The Tulsa women’s basketball team received double-digit efforts from Tiffani Couisnard and Larrissa Williams in the first round of the FGCU Thanksgiving Classic, but it was not enough as the Golden Hurricane fell to Florida Gulf Coast 66-53.
Couisnard scored 11 points and Williams dropped in 10, but TU struggled from the field collectively and finished the game shooting 33 percent. The Golden Hurricane struggled at the charity stripe as well, hitting only half of their attempts.
“To be able to play on the road and knock down open shots, layups and free throws, is something that you want to capitalize on from a coaching standpoint,” Tulsa head coach Charlene Thomas-Swinson said. “We struggled with that a little bit."
The Golden Hurricane outrebounded the Eagles, 44-37, and grabbed 20 offensive rebounds in the game. Tulsa was unable to convert on second-chance opportunities, though.
Tatum Beer added eight points, while Chanice Scott and Denise Lewis each contributed six points.
The Golden Hurricane (2-1) will try rebound today against Akron. Tip off is set for 4 p.m.
